How to give your Tesla an engine sound
The simplest way: open the Tesla's browser and type rupteur.app. Rupteur plays a combustion engine through the car's speakers, driven by its GPS, with a simulated gearbox. Nothing to install, no hardware, no access to the vehicle.
In three steps
- In the Tesla, open the browser and type rupteur.app.
- Open Rupteur and listen to the five engines: the sound comes out of the car's own audio system.
- To unlock them, pay with the QR code on your phone or right on the car screen. The license unlocks the car by itself.
What you hear while driving
Idle, revs climbing, every gear shift, lifting off, pops and bangs on deceleration, exhaust valves open or closed. The engine warms up too: cold, it doesn't pop.
The gearbox is automatic (Comfort or Dynamic) or manual: in manual, one press on the steering wheel scroll button shifts up.
How the sound follows the car
The browser reads the car's GPS up to ten times a second. Speed gives the revs through the real gear ratios of the car being recreated, acceleration gives the load. The sound is not a loop played faster: the RST™ system computes each combustion event when the crankshaft commands it, through the resonances of the exhaust line.
The engines
Five with the license: Audi RS 3 (five-cylinder), Porsche 911 GT3 (flat-six), Toyota Supra MK4 (inline-six), Audi RS 6 C8 (V8) and Golf 8 GTI (four-cylinder). Others are added one by one, like the Lamborghini Aventador S (V12), chosen by customer vote.
Good to know
- The browser can't see the pedal: the sound follows the car's actual acceleration, with a slight response time.
- Rupteur becomes the car's media source: your music pauses while it plays.
- The external speaker stays silent: the browser has no access to it.
- Once loaded, Rupteur works offline, even in an underground car park.
