Why this app exists

I was looking for this for my own car. It did not exist, so I built it.

Rupteur was born in my Model 3, a microphone set down in the cabin and the analyser open on the screen. Every engine goes through that, one by one: none stays in the garage without me signing it off by ear, at the wheel.

The Audi RS 3 opens the garage because it is the most recognisable voice in it: a 400 hp 2.5 turbo five-cylinder, with the warble only an odd number of cylinders can make. Listen to it, you will see.

Questions asked before you

Do I have to install anything in the car?

No. Rupteur is a web app: it runs in the car's browser, caches itself and then works offline. No manufacturer access, no modification to the vehicle.

Which cars does it work on?

Tuned to the millimetre for the Model 3 and its twin the Model Y: screen, steering wheel scroll button, 9 Hz GPS, audio output. It asks for your version at first start, from the 2012 Model S to the Cybertruck, and calibrates its behavior and bass to it: without a subwoofer, it spares your door speakers. It runs in any recent browser with GPS, but a Tesla is where it belongs. One exception: early Model S and X (up to early 2018) still on their original screen (MCU1) have a browser that is too old; they need the screen upgrade (MCU2) offered by Tesla.

What's the difference between €9.99 and €19.90?

Rupteur Basics, at €9.99, unlocks the five engines in the garage and the manual transmission, for life; new engines are sold separately, one by one. Rupteur Premium, at €19.90, adds every engine in the shop, today's and all future ones, with nothing more to pay. Already a €4.99 customer? Your license is now called Basics, and upgrading to Premium costs €4.99, from the shop.

Is this a subscription in disguise?

No. One payment, once, lifetime license, updates included. New engines come one by one, like the BMW M1 Procar, or all at once with Rupteur Premium: on top of your five engines, never instead of them.

Does the sound come out of the car speakers?

Yes, through the car's own system, with the balance adjustable from the Tesla screen. Rupteur becomes the car's media source, on purpose: pressing the steering wheel scroll button blips the throttle at a standstill and shifts up a gear in manual mode. Since a Tesla plays only one source at a time, your music is paused: one press on the scroll button brings it back once the engine is off. The external speaker stays silent: the browser has no access to it.

What if I change cars?

Your license is tied to your car. Changing car? Write to contact@rupteur.app and we will transfer it. Your RUPT-XXXX-XXXX code can be found again at any time with the email you paid with, on the purchase page.

Can I get a refund?

Listen before you pay: a clip right here, and all five engines in the app, in your Tesla. Once digital content has been delivered immediately, the right of withdrawal no longer applies (you waive it at payment, that is the rule for digital goods). A real problem: write to us, nobody is left with a license that does not work.

How does Rupteur know what the car is doing?

Through the car's GPS, which the browser reads up to ten times a second. Speed gives the revs through the real gear ratios of the car being recreated, acceleration gives the load, and the gearbox shifts like the real one. No dongle, no plug, no access to the vehicle. The browser can't see the pedal: the sound follows the car's actual acceleration, with a slight response time.

Which engines are there?

Five come with the license: Audi RS 3 (five-cylinder), Porsche 911 GT3, Toyota Supra MK4, Audi RS 6 C8 and Golf 8 GTI. More can be added one by one in the shop, like the BMW M1 Procar and an electric motor, the Electric Pack. Customers vote for the next ones.
